Looks like people trying to signup for events are posting to the event rather than having the ability to signup. Is that how it will stay or is there going to be a mechanism for signup as in the previous site? |

I believe we will be signing up by posting comments on the event thread. |

Is it possible to give everyone the ability to edit the event header… so they could add themselves to the list? I’ll make the raid events for the remainder of the week to have a play |

During the beta test we have tried out several event calendar systems but none of them did what we were looking for. In the end we decided to go with the current one, which was by far the easiest to use. Unfortunately this system doesn’t have a signup system, but after some trials in the 2nd half of the beta test we felt this is a non-blocking issue. The list of sign-ups in the old system was nice for the event organiser, but in practice they had to read and take into all comments anyway. So people can now just sign up by posting a comment at the event description, possibly adding any special remarks.

Can anyone other than the original event organiser edit an event? It will be very useful to be able to change the header information (if lacking signups etc…). If the event is being run by anyone other then the person who created the event then that person won’t have access to update the header so the detail will be at the end of the post. |

I don’t know if we have officer edit permissions like before? Or maybe the creator can add people to the edit permission list? But what Neti says is true, the previous sign up system was cool, but the event organizer had to check through the comments for any special remarks anyway, so it’s not a big difference. I think we can have an unofficial rule though, that people use “DPS”, “HEALER”, “TANK” as the first word in their comments to make things easier for the organizer. Maybe with a character name on the side, it still gives me trouble some times on people with many alts, figuring which one they will bring xD Example of a raid sign up comment: “DPS-Nienor , might be a few mins late guys” or ” TANK-Neldoreth (Nienor) please sign me up as backup Dunno, seems to me like it would make things nice and organized ( and easier for me, when I start making events again next week >:D )

I just gave you lot some more permissions (before seeing your comments) and I hope it’s fixed now. I have more time to look at this tonight. |

A sign-up system like the one we had was nice and clean and all, but ultimately it was quite rigid, so people would have to make further comment on the thread in question anyway, from time to time (e.g. “my sign up is just as reserve” or comments along those lines). I think commenting on the event thread should work perfectly well. The only difficulties that I can see arising from leaving it as is are as follows:- (1) It will not be immediately apparent to a guild member exactly how many sign-ups have occurred for any given event and what that raid may need to go ahead. That sounds like a negative, but it perhaps isn’t. (2) With no official sign-up page, you wont get those reminders on the website regarding the events you have signed up to attend. To be frank, I never really took notice of that part of the website though. My focus was generally on the front-page “invite list” for any given raid. In summary, don’t go breaking a sweat trying to find a solution for this, because I think it will work fine as is, with perhaps just a modest amount of more work required by those posting the invite list for any given raid (but not much really). |
